-

Location: 204 DeBartolo Hall (View on map )

Johann Wolfgang Goethe (1749-1832), one of Germany’s most important authors, has been studied in every aspect – or so it seems. An in-depth look at his personal library in Weimar, however, offers fresh in insights into his reading interests, writing practice, and intellectual networks. In addition, the presentation will discuss Goethe Library Online, a new digital catalogue of the author’s readings, and the potential of the catalogue data for further digital analysis.

Stefan Höppner is Head of the project Writers’ Libraries at the Marbach Weimar Wolfenbüttel Research Association and works at Klassik Stiftung Weimar, Germany. He also teaches German Literature at the University of Freiburg and holds a position as Adjunct Associate Professor at the School of Languages, Linguistics, Literatures & Cultures at the University of Calgary, Canada.
