This exciting event begins with a lecture by noted Mendelssohn scholar, Professor Jeffrey Sposato of the University of Houston, titled "Elijah and Mendelssohn's 'Jewishness.'" Professor Sposato will examine Elijah in relation to both Mendelssohn's Jewish heritage and his deeply held Lutheran beliefs. This will be followed by a panel discussion in which the participants reflect on their interpretation of Elijah based on their years of experience performing this landmark of nineteenth-century choral music.
