A performance film of what is arguably the most celebrated work of classical chamber music of the twentieth century: Arnold Schoenberg's Pierrot lunaire. Director Frederick Hohman captures on the screen an intense, intimate and sometimes shocking experience, amply illustrating the sensual and expressive nature of atonal music. Under the baton of maestro Tsung Yeh, soprano Georgine Resick (in full commedia dell'arte costume and make-up) and five world-class instrumentalists return to the stage of the Leighton Concert Hall located in the University of Notre Dame's DeBartolo Performing Arts Center, where they first presented their highly acclaimed live performance of Schoenberg's work in 2012. The three sections of the piece are interspersed with commentary from musicologist Dr. Joseph Auner and with commentary from the featured artists.
